Dubai is one of the top travel destinations in the world. With over 3 million inhabitants and an extension of over 50km along the gulfer, the question of locomotion in Dubai arises. It is clear, on foot, a city tour is not recommended, because Dubai has 5 neighborhoods and no classic city center.
Many streets are large and multi-lane, there is enormous traffic and the often very high temperatures give Dubai the reputation of a not particularly pedestrian-friendly city. Walkways or boulevards are de facto non-existent.
Tourists are therefore advised to make their way through the city of Dubai with a motorized means of transport, especially since the distance between the districts can be quite 15 – 20 km.

Taxis in Dubai
The taxi is the number 1 means of transport in Dubai. The taxis are kept in a uniform beige and are almost in front of all the top sights in Dubai, such as the Burj Khalifa, but also in front of the busy malls, hotels and the airport.
Taxis can be called in Dubai almost everywhere and at any time of the day or night. You can reserve in advance by calling the number: +971 4 208 0808.
In Dubai taxis are relatively cheap compared to Germany. However, the kilometer price varies and is determined by various factors, such as the toll or the time of day. A ride from the airport to the hotels of Dubai Marina costs, for example, around 25 euros.
You can also book rides via an app. There is the official Dubai Taxi App, but it can also be accessed on Uber or Careem.
Most taxi drivers in Dubai are not locals. Many of them come from Pakistan, India but also Egypt. So it can happen that even the driver along the route has to ask for directions one or the other time or use his sat nav. All this is easily possible and very safe for tourists.
Important: Not all taxis accept credit cards
However, taxis in Dubai are not just about short distances. Also popular are the family and group taxis in Dubai. With them, for example, individual city tours are possible at a comparatively low price and in a personal atmosphere.
Metro in Dubai
Use the Dubai Metro for a sightseeing trip?
You would like to explore Dubai by metro? All you need is a day ticket, which costs about 22 euros. This allows you to use all zones and all lanes. Exception is only the Palm Monorail, for which one must solve an extra card at the station.
Dubai can be explored through various of their metro stations, or through the travel planner apps Wojhati, or Google Trips, to create the perfect Dubai travel plan. (Book tours in Dubai ……..)
Tickets
For the use of the Metro there are different tickets. The prices vary according to the type of ticket.
The best option for visitors and tourists is the “Nol Card”, which comes in four variations. The Nol Card is a rechargeable ticket, which can be charged with up to 10 single trips or with a day pass. The Nol Card can be used for both the metro and the bus and is usually worth it from the third drive.
The Red Ticket with the day pass for metro, tram, bus and Co. is available in two different versions:
Red Card Day Pass for the Silver Class
Red Card Day Pass for the Gold Class
The Nol Card can be purchased at any station.
By the way: With the metro, the airport transfer to the center is possible. Book your Dubai Metro tickets in advance and get them sent home.
Dubai Tram
The tram Dubai Tram departs from Al Sufouh in 40 minutes to the Jumeirah Beach Residences. Also in the tram is the NOL Card. The tram takes you to the Palm Jumeirah, the Dubai Marina, the Jumeirah Lakes Towers and many other neighborhoods in the city.
Palm Monorail
The tram will take you to the monorail monorail station on the Palm Jumeirah. This train runs from the trunk of the palm to the famous Atlantis, The Palm. To get to the monorail you have to cross a car park.
Important: The Nol Card does not apply here. Separate tickets have to be solved
Bus ride in Dubai
Dubai has a bus network with almost 1,500 buses operating throughout the city, as well as air-conditioned bus stops. The NOL Card can also be used on the buses.
Other means of transport
Dubai can also be explored by car. Given the traffic density is not recommended.
Conclusion
For tourists and visitors taxis and the metro are the first choice. Thus, all major hotels and attractions can be easily reached.
