Enthusiasm for gin knows no bounds in Germany. And so the appropriate gin for the advent and winter season cannot be missing. Hot gin instead of mulled wine – that’s the trend for the winter of 2019. What’s the deal with the winter-it drink?
What comes into the hot Gin?
The making of a hot Gin is quite simple. Instead of wine gin is used and on this basis a number of nice variations can be prepared.
A basic recipe to homemade should contain the following ingredients:
- Gin in desired quantity
- Apple juice, blackcurrant juice or grape juice
- Cinnamon sticks
- Star anise
If this is too time-consuming for you, you can also use a hot Gin spice mixture (buy at Amazon*). It contains the following ingredients: Sugar, cinnamon, anise, fennel, cardamom, bourbon vanilla aroma, lemon, pimento, macis. The preparation is very simple. You heat the gin and add the hot Gin spice mixture. Allow to draw well and stir occasionally.
All about mulled wine spices*.
One of the indisputable advantages is that, compared to mulled wine, a hot Gin does not need any additional sugar. The disadvantage is the higher alcohol content of the Gin.
Which brings us to the question whether each Gin is equally suitable for the preparation of a hot Gin.
Which Gin is the right one for a good hot Gin?
In order to fully bring out the flavour of the hot Gin, we recommend that you use a Gin that is not too alcoholic and has a slight juniper aroma. Therefore, fruity Gins, which already have notes of orange and cinnamon, are perfect for the Advent and Christmas season.
The following Gin types, for example, are suitable for this purpose:
Tanqueray No. Ten Mombasa Club London Dry Gin Elephant Strength Gin Albert Michler Orange Gin
