The Hotel Gitschberg in detail
The hotel is on a sunny plateau in the upper part of Meransen. The gondola lift (Gitschberg-Jochtal) is about 200m away and can be reached without problems. Parking spaces and a garage are available.
Due to its south-west orientation, you can enjoy your vacation on a large sun terrace. Also, most of the rooms are oriented to the southwest. The Gitschberg is very stylishly furnished with lots of wood and radiates cosiness.
In the basement, you will find the wellness area with a ski cellar, and the reception, restaurant, bar, and lounge area are on the first floor. The 38 rooms are spread over the 3rd floor.
Free WiFi is offered. This is also one of the few points of criticism because it is simply too slow. However, the hotel already has a fibre optic cable so that a solution can be expected soon.
Hotel Gitschberg – the rooms
The hotel offers single and double rooms in several categories and suites with integrated saunas. We stayed in a double room, “Hofa”, which, contrary to the reservation, was not on the 2nd floor but on the 1st floor. The furnishing is functional, and there is a lot of wood.
The bathroom (only shower / no daylight) was ok and functional. The furnishings included a flat-screen, a big sofa, and a small desk. Cabinets and storage possibilities are available in sufficient numbers.
The balcony to the south, with a beautiful view of the Eisack and Pustertal valleys and the surrounding mountains, is a highlight. However, the balcony is quite narrow, so the sun terrace on the ground floor is preferable.
All in all, we were absolutely satisfied with the room. Because the time spent in the room was minimal due to the numerous activities ( hiking, city tour, etc. ) and the nice weather, it was a perfect fit.
Hotel Gitschberg – Food and Bar
One of the highlights is the offered “Verwöhnpension” (pampering lodging), consisting of breakfast, snack and dinner.
You start the day with a rich breakfast (juices, cake, muesli, sausage, cheese or freshly prepared egg, omelette or fried eggs). The breakfast is offered in buffet form – corona requires a mask to be worn.
The snack starts at 3 pm. Snacks and cakes can be eaten on the sun terrace.
The dinner has a very tasty and varied 4-course menu (salad, cold and warm starter, main course and dessert). You can always choose between vegetarian and meat dishes.
The Gitschberg has a very well-sorted wine list. The service team will be happy to help you with your choice. The restaurant area is spacious and south-facing, with a great view of the mountains.
The super friendly and highly motivated service team, which radiates enthusiasm and joy, should be emphasized. A big plus.
After dinner, you can end the evening in style at the bar and lounge area.
Hotel Gitschberg – Wellness
The basement has a large wellness area with several saunas (e.g., organic hay), a steam bath, and generous rest areas. Furthermore, you will find an indoor swimming pool and a small fitness room.
A large outdoor area with a panoramic view helps you to relax. A nice thing about the saunas is that they have large windows with a view of the mountains. The wellness area is sufficiently large so there was enough space even at peak times and under aggravated corona conditions.
Hotel Gitschberg – “Activities
For most guests, hiking in summer and skiing in winter should be the main focus. We were on-site in the summer of 2020 and used the time for hiking. Meransen offers many hiking possibilities, and the hotel team is also available for advice. Guided tours are also offered.
If you don’t feel like doing sports, nearby Brixen or Bruneck invite you to culture and shopping. The “Almencard”, which you receive as a guest, allows you to use public transport free of charge. For example, we visited Bozen by train, which was very relaxing compared to the journey by car.
Hotel Gitschberg – Conclusion
A visit to the Hotel Gitschberg is worthwhile. You can spend a relaxed vacation in a comfortable atmosphere and start many activities in a wonderful environment. Service and performance are right, and you have a very good price/performance ratio.
